The New York Times Spelling Bee has 10 ranking levels based on your score as a percentage of the total possible points for that day's puzzle.
The 10 Spelling Bee Levels
Every player starts at "Beginner" (0 points). As you find more words, you progress through the ranks until reaching "Queen Bee" by finding all words.
| Level | Percentage Required |
|---|---|
| Beginner | 0% |
| Good Start | 2% |
| Moving Up | 5% |
| Good | 8% |
| Solid | 15% |
| Nice | 25% |
| Great | 40% |
| Amazing | 50% |
| Genius | 70% |
| Queen Bee | 100% |
How Levels Work
Your rank is determined by calculating your score as a percentage of the maximum possible points. For example:
- If the total possible points is 200 and you score 100 points, you've reached 50% (Amazing level)
- If you score 140 points out of 200, you've reached 70% (Genius level)
- To reach Queen Bee, you must score 100% by finding every word
Good to Know:
The total points vary each day depending on the number of valid words and pangrams in the puzzle.
